"With our son being our eldest child we weren't too sure what exactly we should be looking for in a school or what questions we should ask at the open days, however, when we attended the open evening at the Model we very quickly knew that the school would be a great fit for our son and family. The main reason we choose the Model for our son was the enthusiasm, commitment and warmth shown by the staff for the children in their care. We were extremely impressed by the confidence of the pupils we met at the open evening and the positivity and pride they conveyed towards their school. The opportunities for learning and play, especially outdoor play, was key in our decision when selecting the Model - we knew immediately that our son would love the outside space the Model has to offer, especially the covered courtyard!
Our son is now in Primary 2 and we are delighted with how he has developed in terms of his educational achievement and his social interactions. The Model is such a sociable and welcoming school he rushes in every morning with a big smile on his face and he comes out every afternoon chatting away with his friends which is so lovely to see. The collective experience and knowledge of the staff is second to none and it really is the warmth and commitment of the staff that make the school what it is. We are so delighted that we made the right choice for our son and family and we look forward to many more years at the Model for both our children!"
"Having gone to the Model myself, it was always somewhere I had hoped I could send my own children one day as I have such wonderful memories of my time there. So, when it came to choose a school for my daughter, it was top of our list to visit. We were so impressed with the open school event, the welcoming staff and super reputation it continues to have, that we did not hesitate to choose the Model. There is a warm, nurturing and caring environment in the school which reflects the positive ethos that values the child as a whole and helps them fulfil their potential. The curriculum is varied but focused and the children have so many opportunities to experience an amazing range of activities, areas of learning and topics. The school is well resourced and as a parent it is lovely to hear where parental contributions and PTA funds are being spent to enhance my child's learning. Areas that have been developed such as the courtyard and outdoor learning areas are firm favourites with my little girl!
Communication from school is excellent and the use of ParentMail app and Seesaw help me stay informed and give me more insight into my child's learning. My daughter is so happy in the Model and bubbles with excitement telling us about her day each evening. We are glad we chose here and have no reservations about our youngest daughter attending here too next year."
"I have two children at the school, Primary 2 and Primary 4. They both love the school and are very happy going there. They love breakfast club and school dinners. We picked the school as we found it had a very family and friendly atmosphere around it and it still has. We find the school very welcoming and the teachers are very friendly and approachable. Mrs Miller always greats you in the morning and is around at pick-up times, which is lovely as it makes me feel that my children are safe attending the school."
"When my children joined the Model Primary I was new to the Carrickfergus area and was concerned about making the right choice of school for my children. I have been positively impressed by the school website first, that allowed me to gather the quality of the learning environment and the wide range on offer of activities and clubs. I have really appreciated a quick response on my first contact and a welcoming first appointment with the Principal. My children loved their induction into the school.
Now that my children are at the Model, I know we made the right choice. They enjoy every single day at school. The school offers a high level of teaching through the competence of teachers and other staff members that makes the difference to our children learning.
Being a foreign family, our children use English as an additional language, I am very happy about the attention and understanding the teachers have on bilingualism. I am also very happy of the presence in the school of other children from different nationalities and to the value the school gives to the respect of other cultures.
Communications between the school and families are regular and well organised. The school organisation is fantastic, even during a challenging time like the 2020 lockdown. Mrs Miller kept the school offering to a high standard performance, through remote teaching and personal contact with families. A new extra value is offered from Sleepy Hollow's after school."
